Some of you might know Matthew O’Connell from the award winning, chart – topping live electronic band, GoodLuck. For the past 5 years, he played live synths, saxophone and sang as the third member of the band. Off the back of eleven #1 radio hits in South Africa, the band sold-out live shows – which took them around Europe, Asia, Africa and the UK, across global stages.
Today, Matthew has taken the opportunity to focus on his solo music career as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist debuting his first single “Fire” on the 9th September 2020

The song “Fire” is a direct reflection of who he is as an artist right now, being written and produced by Matthew himself. “Every lyric, instrument and sound heard in the record is written and played by me. As I was going through the motion of song writing, these lyrics resonated with me. Too often we find ourselves judging people by the way they look and how they carry themselves. We use this to decide what we think we like in someone before speaking to them and getting to know them. This sets a false and unapproachable barrier and a missed opportunity as the person could be the complete opposite.”
Given COVID-19 challenges, Matthew chose to co-direct and produce the FIRE music video with Sam World. Nothing more than a camera and the two of them on set to put together this music video.
